Should I be tested?

Home

Likely you should.

According to the USA government task force all ladies over the age of 64 should be tested every year.  If you are over 59 and have any risk factors you should be tested every year.

16% of young ladies are at risk of fracture due to osteopenia or osteoporosis.

20% of those who have a hip fracture will die within a year as a result of the osteoporosis fracture.

Men are not immune.  They have fewer fractures but are more apt to die from them.

We suggest all adults 20 years of age or older, should have the test to establish their base line.  We may suggest retesting at a 1 to 10 year interval depending on lifestyle, health and present bone strength.

Osteoporosis is the silent thief.  You could be loosing bone strength and not even know it.  A fracture is usually the first sign.  Osteoporosis is preventable and treatable!  It is much easier to prevent osteoporosis at an earlier age, then to treat the disease later.   It often starts in childhood.  Be proactive in your health and be tested.
