Procedure

A visit is booked either by you directly or as a referral by a health professional.

On arrival at the office you will sign in at the desk.

You will then be given a life style risk factor questionnaire to fill out.

A certified technician will then perform the actual ultrasound test done in a private office.  You will be seated in a comfortable chair and a sensor is slid over the test sites.  The sensor is covered with a layer of water-soluble ultrasound gel.  There is absolutely no pain or danger to you during the test.  We usually do a weight bearing and a non-weight bearing bone scan.  A non-weight bearing scan is most important, as bone responds to stress.  A person that spends time on their feet may show a strong lower body, however, may in fact be very weak in the upper body and may need to be treated for osteoporosis.  We do a minimum of 3 scans from each site to gather sufficient information for a true, accurate reading.

We then do a resume based on the questionnaire and the test results.  Recommendations are made and you are given the necessary handouts and printed information to start a healthier lifestyle.

Print outs of the tests are sent to your M.D. and other appropriate health providers, if you wish.

We will make appropriate referrals if necessary.

Cash, cheque, MasterCard or Visa, can be used for payment.  The test is usually very inexpensive and some insurance companies will often cover it.

Total time required is usually about 45 minutes.
