We have
found many of our osteoporotic patients as well as those with good bone strength
are suffering from foot, leg and lower body instability, often with associated
discomfort or pain. In order to
provide the best service to these people we fit custom arch supports, known as
orthotics, in the office. We adjust
the feet first to make certain that they are in a proper functioning condition.
Then we create a foam mould of the foot in a neutral weight bearing posture.
The mould is then sent to The Orthotic Group in Ontario and a
custom form fitting orthotic is created using the most up to date technology
available.
We feel
that adjusting the foot prior to making the mould is extremely important.
Not adjusting the bones of the feet first is like putting a cast on a
broken arm without setting the arm first.
We will
make orthotics for anyone. You do
not need to be a patient for this service.
Orthotics
are usually covered by insurance but we strongly advise you to check exactly
what coverage you have. If you need
special referrals we can usually arrange for that to be done without any
problems.
